How to play Slide & Merge
Slide & Merge is a number puzzle on a 4×4 board. Every move slides all the tiles as far as they’ll go in one direction, and matching tiles join together.
- Slide the tiles. Swipe on the board, use the arrow keys, or tap the arrows under it. Every tile moves as far as it can that way.
- Merge matching numbers. When two tiles with the same number touch as they slide, they merge into one tile worth both: two 8s make a 16.
- A new tile appears after every move, a 2 or occasionally a 4, in a random empty square.
- Reach 2048 to win. Then keep going for a bigger tile and a higher score if you like.
- The game ends when the board is full and no tiles can merge.
Every merge adds the new tile’s value to your score. Made a slip? Undo takes back your last move.
Quick tips for a higher score
- Pick a corner and keep your biggest tile in it. Most strong players use a bottom corner.
- Use mostly two or three directions. If your big tile is bottom-left, slide down and left as much as you can, and avoid up.
- Build a chain along one edge. Line tiles up in order, like 256, 128, 64, 32, so each merge flows into the next.
- Don’t chase small merges. A tidy board matters more than a few points now.
