Light Switch

Turn every light off

Tap a light to flip it and the lights above, below and beside it. Your record: 0 puzzles solved

How to play Light Switch

Light Switch is a grid of lights, some on and some off. Your goal is to switch them all off. The catch: every tap affects more than one light.

  1. Tap a light. It switches, on to off or off to on.
  2. Its neighbours switch too. The lights directly above, below, to the left and to the right of it also flip. Diagonals don’t change.
  3. Turn every light off to solve the puzzle.

Every puzzle can be solved. The Fewest counter shows the smallest number of taps that would do it. Stuck? Hint shows a light that’s part of a solution.

Quick tips for solving

  • Order doesn’t matter. Tapping A then B has exactly the same effect as B then A.
  • Tapping twice undoes it. So no light ever needs more than one tap in a solution.
  • Chase the lights down. Work row by row from the top: for each light still on, tap the light directly below it. When you reach the bottom, only the last row will be lit, and that pattern tells you which top-row lights to tap before chasing down again.

Light Switch FAQ

Is every puzzle solvable?

Yes. Each puzzle is made by tapping random lights on a dark board, so it can always be turned off again.

What does Fewest mean?

It’s the smallest number of taps that solves the puzzle, worked out when the puzzle is made. Match it for a perfect solve.

Is this the same as Lights Out?

It follows the same rules as the classic Lights Out puzzle: every press flips a light and its four neighbours.

Do diagonal lights change?

No. Only the light you tap and the ones directly above, below, left and right of it.

Is Light Switch free?

Yes. Play as many puzzles as you like in your browser on any device. No download and no account needed.
