How to play Word Search
Each puzzle has a theme, like Animals or Space, and a list of words hidden in a grid of letters. Find every word to finish.
- Look for a word from the list. Words run in straight lines and never bend.
- Drag across it from the first letter to the last. Or tap the first letter, then the last.
- Found it? It’s circled in the grid and crossed off the list.
- Find every word to finish the puzzle. Your time is saved.
Easy grids are 8×8, with words that read left to right or top to bottom. Medium grids are 10×10 and add diagonals. Hard grids are 12×12, and words can run in any of eight directions, including backwards.
Quick tips for finding words faster
- Hunt for unusual letters. Look for the Q, Z, X, J or K in a word first. There are fewer of them in the grid.
- Look for double letters. Pairs like LL, OO or EE stand out when you scan.
- Scan one row at a time for a word’s first letter, then check the eight squares around each one for the second.
- Start with the longest words. They’re easiest to spot and use up lots of letters.

Can words go backwards?
Only on Hard. Easy words read left to right or top to bottom, Medium adds diagonals, and Hard allows all eight directions, including backwards.
