The lesson in words
The best opening rolls let you make a point: put two checkers together on a new point, so it’s safe from hits and blocks your opponent.
The most valuable points to make early are your 5 point, your 4 point and your 7 point (the bar point).
3-1 is the best opening roll of all.
Try it: Use 3-1 to make your 5 point.
4-2 works the same way.
Try it: Use 4-2 to make your 4 point.
And 6-1 makes the bar point, right next to the bar.
Try it: Use 6-1 to make your 7 point.
With 3-1, 4-2 and 6-1, make a point. Next: staying safe from hits.
