How to play Backgammon: the board and setup
Backgammon in two minutes: the 24 points, where your 15 checkers start, which way they move and what your home board is. How Backgammon works · lesson 1 of 4.
The lesson in words
Backgammon is played on a board of 24 narrow triangles, called points. You have 15 gold checkers and your opponent has 15 ivory ones.
The points are numbered 1 to 24 from your side. Your checkers travel from the high numbers down towards point 1.
Points 1 to 6, at the bottom right, are your home board. Your goal is to bring all 15 checkers home, then take them off the board. That’s called bearing off.
Try it: Tap all six points of your home board.
Fifteen checkers, all heading home. Next: how the dice move them.
