How to move in Mancala: sowing seeds
In Mancala you pick up every seed from one of your pits and sow them one at a time around the board. Learn sowing with practice. How Mancala works · lesson 2 of 5.
The lesson in words
On your turn, pick up all the seeds from one of your pits. Then drop them one at a time into the next pits, moving anticlockwise: right along your row, into your store, then along your opponent’s row.
Watch the first pit being sown.
Pits are numbered 1 to 6 from left to right.
Try it: Sow the seeds from your second pit.
Seeds that pass your store carry on into your opponent’s pits. That’s allowed: they just aren’t yours any more.
Try it: Your last pit has 4 seeds. Tap the pit where its last seed would land.
Pick up, then drop one at a time, anticlockwise. Next: the free turn.
Questions
Can you sow a seed into your opponent’s store?
No. You skip it, so seeds only ever reach a store by its owner’s sowing.
