The checkers board and how to set it up
How to set up a checkers board: 12 pieces each on the dark squares of the first three rows, and which way the board goes. How checkers works · lesson 1 of 6.
The lesson in words
Checkers (also called draughts) is played on an 8×8 board. Each player has 12 pieces, set out on the dark squares of the three rows nearest them.
Pieces only ever stand on dark squares, so half the board is never used.
Each player has a dark square in the bottom-left corner. The two middle rows start empty.
On BoardGameSite you play gold and move first. (In tournaments the darker side moves first.)
That’s the starting position. Next: how the pieces move.
